VISTA Automated Site Assessment Service for E-Clinical Studies Gains Momentum
VISTA web-based service chosen by a top 50 Pharmaceutical Sponsor and an
international Contract Research Organization to automate site technology assessment
for their e-clincial studies.
MEDIA, PA November 10, 2006 - Scientific Software Tools,
Inc. (SST), a leader in the area of technology enabling software and services
for clinical trials today announced increased acceptance in the e-clinical trials
market for VISTA, a web-based automated site technology assessment service used
by Pharmaceutical Sponsors, Contract Research Organizations (CROs) and Electronic
Data Capture (EDC) vendors prior to the initiation of an EDC clinical study.
Over the last month two new clients have selected VISTA.
Before an EDC clinical study begins an assessment must be performed to ensure
that the PC technology at the investigative sites meets the study requirements.
The current site technology assessment process is accomplished by phone calls,
faxes and emails sent to non-technical site personnel requesting information
of a highly technical nature about their PC infrastructure. VISTA automates
and simplifies this process shortening site technology assessment from weeks
to hours. Using VISTA study sites are directed to a web site where they click
a button or two and in seconds to minutes a comprehensive technology report
is available for determination if a site is qualified to participate in the
EDC study. The quicker a study site passes a technology assessment the sooner
the site can deliver critical study data electronically to the Pharmaceutical
Sponsor or CRO.
According to Elise Furman, President of Scientific Software Tools, Inc "the
CRO chose VISTA because they were in charge of a large international EDC study
with a tight start-up deadline. They were uncertain of the PC infrastructure
at the selected international study sites and needed a quick and accurate way
to assure the study Sponsor that the sites met the technology requirements.
Using VISTA the CRO will have those answers in hours, allowing it to meet the
"The Pharmaceutical Sponsor chose VISTA primarily to make sure that the study
sites had a good user experience with EDC. They wanted accurate measurements
including connectivity speed and page turn rate. In the past slow page turns
or difficulty uploading study data has caused site frustration and study delays.
Additionally, they recognized that their traditional manual method for completing
a site technology assessment is labor-intensive, time-consuming and the responses
given on the technical questionnaires (by non technical personnel) were often
inaccurate. Using VISTA the Pharmaceutical Sponsor will get accurate information
to gauge site user experience and the study site personnel will no longer need
to fill out lengthy, complicated, highly technical questionnaires."
